Over approximately 30 years of endeavor, the 'Takeaway' factory built house has finally come to fruition. The new building system, which allows homes to be constructed or prefabricated in a factory, containerised and then transported, is a result of the efforts of Architect Gabriel Poole and builders Jim and Penny Margach of Gateway Constructions.
With this system it has not been our desire to produce the cheapest house on the market. It has been our intent to provide an affordable house of a quality not previously known in factory built, transportable or kit homes.
Takeaways go further than just supplying a kit of building materials by providing a series of panels built in the factory, sized to fit into a container. They are superior to the traditional method of house transport whereby a constructed house is split and trucked as an oversize load. Takeaways are remarkably simple to construct on site and can be delivered overseas.
Careful attention has been given to producing an environmentally energy responsible product. Our belief is that designing these houses with attention concentrated on responsible passive solar design will enable comfortable living in climates from Melbourne to Darwin without the necessity for air conditioning.
We will continue to investigate best methods of building and energy efficiency and will pursue the highest level of design and finish to keep the product to the fore front for 'Takeaway' housing.
